before the New York Supreme Court1

[Albany] October 26, 1782. An entry in the “Minutes of the Supreme Court” on this date reads: “Alexander Hamilton Esquire having on Examination been found of sufficient Ability and Competent learning to practise as Counsel in this Court Ordered that he be admitted accordingly.”

MS “Minutes of the Supreme Court of New York, July 31, 1781, to November 1, 1783,” 289, Hall of Records, New York City.

1. H already had been admitted to practice as an attorney before the Supreme Court. See “Admission as Attorney before the New York Supreme Court,” July, 1782.
