On 17 Nov., TJ received a short letter from the Navy Department enclosing commissions for officers on board the schooner Enterprize, who had been acting “without regular Commissions & Warrants” (RC in DLC; undated; unsigned, in a clerk’s hand; endorsed by TJ as received 17 Nov. from the Navy Department and “Commissions for officers of Enterprize” and so recorded in SJL; enclosures not found).
