Mrs. John March (ca. 1750-1807) conducted the business of her husband’s bookbindery, stationery shop, and bookstore in Georgetown after his death in June 1804. Joseph Milligan, who administered John March’s estate and was also in the bookbinding trade, became the proprietor after her death. According to a receipt of 12 Mch. 1805, TJ made a partial payment of $50 by Joseph Dougherty on his account with March (MS in MHi, in Joseph Milligan’s hand, endorsed by TJ; Washington Federalist, 4 June, 28 July 1804; National Intelligencer, 17 Aug. 1807, 22 Apr. 1808; , 1:37n; , 2:1148).
