Michael Baldwin wrote to Madison on 29 May, acknowledging the receipt of his commission and thanking the president “for the honor conferred upon me” (RC in DNA: RG 59, AOC; torn; endorsed by TJ: “Baldwin Michael. accepts [. . .]”).
