RC (MHi); at foot of text: “Thos. Jefferson esqr.”; endorsed by TJ as received 26 Apr. and so recorded in SJL with notation “C. Peyton 201. D.” Enclosure: order of Craven Peyton, not found (see TJ to Jefferson, 28 Apr.).

In his financial memoranda under 28 Apr., TJ recorded: “Assumed to pay Geo. Jefferson the first week in Aug. 201. D. for Craven Peyton. Note this is for 2. shares in the warehouse at Milton” (MB description begins James A. Bear, Jr., and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767-1826, Princeton, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1151).
