§ From William Henry Harrison. 25 February 1807, Vincennes. “Please to pay to George Wallace Jun. Esqr. or his order thirty two Dollars & twenty one Cents out of the Contingent fund of the Indiana Territory being the Amount in full of the above account to which the account & Receipt of the Vincennes Post Master is annexed.”1

MS and enclosure (DNA: RG 217, First Auditor’s Accounts, No. 19,256). MS 1 p.; signed and docketed by JM with his note: “Dept of State approved.” Appended to Harrison’s account with the State Department for $32.21 for “Cash paid to Genl. Washington Johnston […] for the Postage of Letters & Packages on Public business directed to or forwarded to the said Governor from the 25th. of Septr. 1805. to the 26 of Septr. 1806.” For enclosure, see n. 1.

1Harrison enclosed Johnston’s account and receipt with the State Department, both dated 26 September 1806 (1 p.), for the “Postage on Letters received by His Excy. Governor Harrison, for Public business, from the 25th of September last, to this day” totaling $32.21. Below the account, Johnston signed to acknowledge having received $32.21 from Harrison.
