§ From Nathaniel Macon
18 March 1810, Washington. Francis Xavier Martin will accept appointment to fill vacancy created by the death of one of the Orleans territorial judges [John Thompson]. Has known Martin, a native of France, as a North Carolina lawyer from 1781 until he became a judge in the Mississippi Territory [in 1809].
