Cambridge, 25 March 1776. Recommends confirmation of David Townsend as surgeon of Col. Asa Whitcomb’s regiment.1

1David Townsend (1753–1829) of Boston, who studied medicine under Dr. Joseph Warren and tended the wounded at the Battle of Bunker Hill, was surgeon of Col. Jonathan Brewer’s Massachusetts regiment from July to December 1775. Townsend served as surgeon of Whitcomb’s 6th Continental Regiment until December 1776, and in March 1777 he was appointed a hospital surgeon. He remained in the army until the end of the war.
