On this date GW wrote to Charles Thomson, secretary of Congress, from headquarters at West Point: “I have been honored with yours of the 28th Ulto informing me of the election of the Honble Samuel Huntington Esq: to the presidency of Congress—on that day” (Df, in Tench Tilghman’s writing, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW). Thomson’s letter has not been found.
