The Secretary of state has the honor of sending to the President the opinions of the gentlemen on the address from the democratic society in Washington.1

1. GW enclosed the address from the Democratic Society of Washington County, Pa., of 24 March with his letter to Randolph of 11 April. Randolph then wrote a letter to William Bradford, Alexander Hamilton, and Henry Knox on 14 April asking for their opinions on a proper response to the address. As Randolph’s letter circulated from one cabinet member to another, each man wrote his opinion directly below Randolph’s signature. For this cabinet opinion, see the enclosure below.
